Southwest R-V School District

April 2, 2019 Bond Issue

Proposition KIDS

“Keep Improving District Schools”

FACILITIES REVIEW

After completing the annual district facilities review, the district determined there is a critical need for a second phase of renovations and repairs to our facilities.  As stated when Phase I was being promoted and completed, “our district has been placing too much money and too many band-aids on facility issues that need major repairs and renovations.”

Phase II will include renovations and remodeling to our current middle school, lower elementary, and upper elementary facilities.  Due to the age of these facilities, these renovations are essential to keeping the students in a healthy, safe, and productive learning environment.

PHASES OF COMPLETION

Phase I Improvements:  April 4, 2017 Bond Issue (Completed as Promised)

The community passed the first phase of the renovations on April 7, 2017.  These included the complete renovation and remodel of the middle school gymnasium including the addition of HVAC to that facility.  In the lower elementary school, the existing restrooms were completely renovated and an additional set of restrooms were built on the north end of the building.  The last portion of the April 2017 Bond Issue included replacing several HVAC units in the middle school building.  All of these improvements were completed over the 2017 summer and early fall.

Phase II Improvements:  April 2, 2019 Bond Issue

In the best interest of the district and community, a bond issue will be on the ballot on April 2, 2019 to fund needed district facilities renovations and repairs.  The bond is for $2.2 million dollars and will not increase the current 85 cent levy.  This means that the necessary repairs and renovations can be completed without increasing the current taxes that patrons are paying to the school district.

IMPORTANCE TO THE DISTRICT AND PATRONS

It is important to me as the superintendent of the district, but just as vital as a lifelong resident of this community, that we take care of the facilities.  Of course, new is amazing, but the cost of demolishing and rebuilding is ridiculous and a wasteful use of tax dollars.  With the passing of Propositions KIDS, the district can renovate, repair, and remodel the facilities which we currently have and make them not only look new, but function as new facilities at a fraction of the cost.

REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS

The 2017 Bond Issue passed because the committee members helped to distribute information and encouraged the voters to get to the polls on election day.  I am, once again, asking for committee volunteers to assist in promoting the Proposition KIDS bond issue.  Being a committee member will not take much of your time, but it takes individuals who will share the appropriate and accurate information about this bond issue to the voters of the district.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the superintendent’s office at 417-826-5410.  If you call, please leave your name and contact information such as email address and phone number with Peggy Murray.  You can also email me at ttilford@swr5.net or Peggy Murray at pmurray@swr5.net.

An informational meeting will be in the Southwest Elementary Cafeteria on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 6:00 pm.  This meeting will provide information regarding the bond issue plus promotional materials will be available for the volunteers.

Tuesday, April 2, 2019 is the day to vote.  I believe that our students deserve being educated in a healthy, safe, and productive learning environment.

Thank you, Tosha Tilford
