Southwest Spikers Fall in Quarterfinals at Galena

Spokane defeated Southwest 25-19, 25-23 Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Galena Volleyball Tournament. Junior Maggie Robbins made 14 of 15 serves, including 4 aces and added 7 digs and 6 serve receptions, while Senior Myka Cook contributed 10 kills for the Lady Trojans, who have a record of 5-7-2 at the halfway point of the season. Southwest had a win (Bradleyville), a loss (Blue Eye) and a tie (Galena) in pool play. The Lady Trojans rallied from 5-point deficits in both sets against Bradleyville and made all 45 of their serves, including 9 aces. Junior Mariah Munday, who suffered a severe sprained ankle against Spokane, led the way against Galena with 11 digs and 11 serve receptions. The girls have a busy week with home games Tuesday and Thursday against Hurley and Wheaton and then host Volleyfest Saturday. Tueday's varsity match against Hurley is a best-of-5 sets.
