Southwest Splits Academic Matches With Purdy

The Trojan middle school academic teams split their matches with Purdy Wednesday (Nov. 29). The older group, led by Amy Reeves (13 questions), won 190-80, while the younger team lost 170-60.

Shell Knob Sweeps Academic Matches

Shell Knob won both academic matches Thursday (Nov. 30). The 8th-graders lost 290-150 and the 7th-graders fell 160-110. The team is now off until after the holidays when they face Exeter at home on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Middle School Volleyball Practice Starts December 5

Volleyball practice for middle schoolers begins Tuesday, Dec. 5. The team, which is open to 7th- and 8th-grade girls, practices from 3:30 to 5:00 in Pit. Players are reminded they need an athletic physical and proof of insurance before practicing. If you have any questions, contact Coach Voyak at svoyak@swr5.net or 479.422.5395.

The academic team split its matches with Verona Wednesday. The 8th-graders lost 260-90, while the 7th-graders won 110-90.

Volleyball Organizational Meeting Scheduled Nov. 16

An organizational meeting for middle school volleyball is scheduled in the art room during TA on Thursday, Nov. 16. The team is open to girls in 7th and 8th grade. Practice begins in December. For more information, contact Coach Voyak at svoyak@swr5.net.

Southwest Spikers Win Final Game

Southwest defeated Shell Knob 25-13, 20-25, 25-21 in the volleyball season finale (April 6). Khloe Holder finished the game with 2 aces and made several other key plays in the deciding set. The Lady Trojans finished the season with a record of 10-6-4. Shell Knob won the only set in 7th-grade action 25-9. The Southwest 7th-graders ended the season 2-6-1. Special thanks to Emily Berry and Sydney Leroy for being managers and McKenzie Smith for being a line judge. Also a big thank you to administration, faculty and staff for supporting and encouraging the girls. It's always a good day for volleyball.

Galena Sweeps Lady Trojans in Volleyball

Galena won both matches Monday (April 3) over Southwest. The Bears won the 7th-grade game 25-18, 25-18. Galena won the 8th-grade game 25-20, 25-10. The Lady Trojans end the season Thursday at Shell Knob.

Southwest 3rd at Purdy Volleyball Tournament

Although they didn't lose a match all day - winning 2 and tying 3 - the Lady Trojan volleyball team placed third at the Purdy Tournament Saturday (April 1). Southwest tied Purdy, Wheaton and Shell Knob and defeated Verona twice. Some highlights: Danielle Reed was 30 of 31 serving with 5 aces, Bonnie Robbins and Khloe Holder each had 12 kills. The Lady Trojans have a record of 9 wins, 5 losses and 4 ties with games remaining this week against Galena and Shell Knob.

Southwest Sweeps Verona on Family Night

The Lady Trojan volleyball teams swept Verona Thursday on Family Night at the Pit. With Southwest trailing in the deciding third set of the 7th-grade game, Stacy Barber made 8 straight serves and the Lady Trojans went on to win 26-24. Captain Elizabeth Ross was also a perfect 14 for 14 serving as the 7th-graders won their second game of the season. Southwest won the 8th-grade game in 2 sets. Captain Bonnie Robbins led the way with 10 aces and she scored the first 14 points of the second set. Khloe Holder added 3 aces and 3 assists as the Lady Trojans improved to 7-5-1. The girls play in the Purdy Tournament Saturday.
