Southwest 3rd in SWCL Scholar Bowl Tourney

Southwest Middle School won two of three matches Saturday and finished third in the SWCL Conference Tournament at Kirbyville. The Trojans beat Blue Eye in the quarterfinals but lost to eventual tourney champ Sparta by one question in the semifinals. Southwest defeated Kirbyville for third place. The Trojans have an 8-6 record and will participate in the Shell Knob Tournament Saturday, March 7.

Members of the team include Kameron Kelley, Clark Brinkman, Sophia Wyman, Braden Garcia, and Captain Charlie Pippin.


Trojans Split Matches with Kirbyville and Sparta

Both academic matches went down to the final question Tuesday and the Trojans emerged with a 250-180 win over Kirbyville and a 230-180 loss to Sparta in Southwest Central League Conference play. The Trojans finish league play in 4th place with a 4-3 record. The team is 6-5 overall and plays in the SWCL Tournament Saturday morning at Kirbyville.

Southwest to Offer Volleyball Intramurals in January

Southwest Elementary and Middle Schools will sponsor volleyball intramurals in January. The program, led by Coaches Steve Voyak and Mandy Henry, is open to girls in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade, runs from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. and costs $15. The dates are Jan. 7, Jan. 9, Jan. 13, Jan. 14, Jan. 16, Jan. 20, Jan. 21, Jan. 23, Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 in the middle school gym. Players need sneakers, a T-shirt and shorts to participate. Trojans Win One and Lose One in Scholar Bowl Matches

Southwest split its matches, beating Purdy 200-20 and falling Galena 210-120, Tuesday in SWCL Scholar Bowl matches in Washburn. The Trojans have a 4-4 record through 8 competitions. Special thanks to Coach Eagleburger and Senior Rachel Jimenez for helping as match officials. The team is off for a week before they travel to Blue Eye for another SWCL match-up.

Shell Knob Downs Southwest in Scholar Bowl

Shell Knob defeated Southwest 220-160 and 170-150 Monday in non-conference academic matches. The Trojans return to action tonight when they host Purdy and Galena at home in SWCL Conference play.

Southwest Loses Epic Match with Billings 150-140

Southwest played the longest Scholar Bowl match in the history of the school on Nov. 19 losing to Billings on the 11th question in overtime 150-140. Southwest led 120-70 before the Wildcats tied it on the final question in regulation. The Trojans got the first two overtime questions, but Billings rallied for the next 3 and the victory. Through five matches, the Trojans have an overall record of 3-2 and a 1-1 SWCL Conference mark.


Academic Team vs. Shell Knob

Southwest split its matches with Shell Knob Monday, November 18, winning 220-160 and losing 140--80 in non-conference play. Special thanks to Coach Eagleburger and Senior Rachel Jimenez for serving as match officials. The Trojans are back in action Tuesday, November 19, against Crane and Billings at Crane in SWCL play.


Middle School Academic Team Split Matches

The academic team split its matches at Cassville Thursday, November 14. One competition went to overtime before Kameron Kelley won with the answer "Pearl Harbor." The team is back in action the week of November 18 with games against Shell Knob and Crane.


Track Update

MS Track had a strong showing from the girls over the long weekend!

Thursday night at Cassville:

Emily Wilson pulled out some amazing feats winning gold in both the 200m and 400m and then coming from 7th place in the 4x400 and passing all other runners to finish 1st!

The 4x400 team includes Emily Wilson, Cally Bowyer, Anna Church, and Alexis Raucstadt.

Cally Bowyer also placed 3rd in the 1600m.

Alexis Raucstadt also placed 2nd in the 800m and 4th in the high jump

Monday at Hollister:

Emily Wilson placed 1st in the 200m and 400m (despite hurting muscles)

The 4x400 team placed 2nd with an amazing showing from all 4 girls

Cally Bowyer placed 3rd in triple jump and 3rd in the 1600m

Alexis Raucstadt placed 2nd in the 800m

 

For the boys:

Thursday night at Cassville:

Otis Rainer placed 4th in the triple jump and 800m

Daniel McIlvene placed 2nd in the shot put with the new MS record of 40'2"

Garret Hill placed 4th in discus

Monday at Hollister:

Otis Rainer placed 4th in the long jump

Zak Starr placed 4th in the 400m

Robert Humphries placed 4th in the 1600

MS Track Results from East Newton

Girls placed 5th overall and the boys placed 4th at the East Newton track meet on Tuesday, April 9.


Alexis Rauschstadt got 2nd place in the 800 with a time of 3:03.2, 3rd in the 100 with a time of 14.3 and 3rd in the high jump with a height of 3'10".

Cally Bowyer placed 4th in the 1600 with a time of 6:48 and 2nd in the triple jump with a distance of 26'2"

Emily Wilson placed 1st in the 400 with a time of 1:04.9 and 1st in the 200 with a time of 28.8

 

The Girls 4x400 relay team (Anna Church, Emily Wilson, Cally Bowyer, and Alexis Rauschstadt) put in an amazing effort coming out of dead last and finishing 1st with a time of 4:51.8

 

Evan Ennes placed 5th in the hurdles with a time of 20.7 and 4th in the long jump with a distance of 11'11"

Ezra Sprowes placed 4th in the 400 with a time of 1:09.5 and 4th in the high jump with a height of 4'4"

Robert Humphries placed 6th in the 1600 (mile) with a time of 6:24.9 

Garrett Hill placed 3rd in the shot put with a distance of 28'7"

 

The 7th grade 4x400 relay (Robert Humphries, Jordan Long, Evan Ennes, and Eugene Rainier) finished 5th with a time of 5:07 great effort boys!

 

Zak Starr finished 3rd in the 400 with a time of 1:01 and 5th in the long jump with a height of 5'0" 

Otis Rainer placed 2nd in the 800 with a time of 2:28.8, 5th in the long jump with a distance of 15'7.5" and 1st in the triple jump with his personal best of 35'0"

Daniel McIlvene placed 2nd in shot put with a distance of 35'9" and 1st in discus with a distance of 91'8" 

 

The 8th grade 4x400 relay (Otis Rainer, Zak Starr, Colton Pendergraft, and Zak Corwin) placed 4th with their team best time of 4:19.8
